CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS
(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums
USES: This medication is an antaicd used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.
HOW TO USE: Take that by motuh as directed. Chew thoroughly and swallow. Do not swallow the tablets whole. Follow each dose with a full glass of water.
Do not rasie the dose or take that more often than prescribed. If you feel your dose is not effective, consult your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolreated.
Constipation or stmoach cramps may occur. Notify your doctor if they continue or become seevre. Tell your docotr immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache. If you notice other effects not listed above, contcat your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your dcotor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies.
Aviod taking more doses than recommended. This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nopnrescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overodse may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.
NOTES: There are various froms of that medication available. The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting.
Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the hottest prdouct for you. If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your dotcor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
